In an ever evolving Social Media world, it is important to understand the latest Social Media trends to stand out from your competition.

We are 2 days away from 2025, which is the perfect time to uncover the latest trends.

Social Media Today, a website that covers the latest Social Media News, published an article, “26 predictions for Social Media Marketing in 2025.” You can view the article in its entirety by clicking it. [1]

Out of the many trends that were listed, there were a couple that stuck out to me — Generative AI, the Meta x Ray Ban integration, the rise in shopping mainly through Tiktok, and the list of new entrants (platforms) that are emerging that may disrupt the Digital Marketing Landscape in a big way.

It is becoming increasingly clear that AI is penetrating a plethora of industries, which may eliminate the human element altogether. But what about Generative AI and its relationship with Social Media?

According to DataForest, an AI-based website, there are more pros, such as “Automating Content”, “Video Generation”, “Building an Engaging Audience” to name a few, but the website also recognizes the cons as well — which are huge, such as “privacy” and “deepfakes”. [2]

In an effort to closely understand the world of AI, it may help to famaliarize yourself with some terms.

  • “Natural Language Processing:” “enables AI to understand, interpret, and generate human language. It powers features like text generation, sentiment analysis, and language translation.”
  • “Machine Learning:” “is the backbone of AI, allowing systems to learn from data without explicit programming. It trains models for image recognition, recommendation systems, and ad targeting.”
  • “Deep Learning:” “uses artificial neural networks to process information in layers, mimicking the human brain.”
  • “Generative Adversarial Networks:” “consist of two neural networks competing against each other to generate highly realistic content. They’re used for creating fake images, videos, audio, and style transfer.”

An interesting statistic that was pointed out in Deloitte’s 2023 survey, Generation Z accounted for 31% of individuals who have tried Generative AI.

Beyond the mere statistics and theoretical pros and cons, major cell phone providers such as Apple have partnered with OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT.

The second trend that stood out to me was the Meta x Ray Ban integration. This stood out to me because the tech wearable space is pretty crowded with other competitors — Fitbit, iWatch, Android watch to name a few. Just to provide you with a snapshot of the market, Emarketer projects that AR Headsets will reach $5.34 Billion in 2028. [3]. The Meta x Ray Ban glasses provide AI services in real time.

The third trend is consumers buying through in-app, mainly reffering to TikTok shop. Business Dasher indicates that purchases made in 2023 were 33.3% [4].

As is the case every year, there are new emerging platforms that look to disrupt the Digital Marketing Landscape. Foximusic talks about these new platforms. [5]

  • Lemon8: Developed by ByteDance (parent company of TikTok), photosharing platform, has userbase of 5M+, focuses on lifestyle content, easy for users to create/share high quality content, can cross promote with TikTok.
  • Made with Friends: Allows friends to post on a user profile’s page, goal: deeper connection, more communal online experience, 250K+ users.
  • Supernova: Social network that gives back by sharing 60% of revenue with charities that are chosen by users, social cause driven.
  • Airchat: Audio-Forward Social Media Platform, emphasizes push-to-talk, voice forward messaging, 50K users.
  • Fizz Social: Private on-campus app that ensures students have a safe space for interactions.
