Tesla, Restaurant Industry a match?
Tesla, the American company known for its vision of Solar & Clean Energy, may be adding another sector to it’s portfolio — the restaurant business. [2]
Of course, this isn’t the first sector that Elon Musk has entered — he has SpaceX, which is focused on “lower priced transportation into space”, as well as Telecommunications, and Satellite Internet, The Boring Company which focuses on Transportation & Infrastructure, OpenAI which focuses on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies, and finally Neuralink — which specializes in Medicine, Robotics, Military, and Prosthetics. TechCrunch, a site that is focused on tech-based news, indicated that the Tesla CEO filed patents on May 27th, 2021 for 4 restaurant-based categories — “restaurant services, pop-up restaurant services, self-service restaurants, and takeout restaurants.” A decision is expected around the August 27th timeframe. [4]
Being that Elon Musk is not afraid to get himself involved in new business sectors, I am personally not surprised and it may force restaurants in this space to strategically change their business model — that way they don’t lose to their competition.
A very similar case is happening with Amazon. While they are primarily known as an e-commerce company, they have shifted to an automated brick-and-mortar business model for their grocery business division. This is forcing grocery stores to re-position themselves to adjust accordingly in order to stay relevant in the marketplace.
