With lots of Social Media platforms emerging during this “Digital Age”, when it comes to an understated platform — Linkedin still meets the needs.

Previously, I had written a blog — “How Valuable Linkedin could be for you personally, and for your business “— which focused on building an individual’s brand and a company brand.

This blog will primarily focus on key aspects of Linkedin, with some worth repeating. Also, this blog will talk about 2 new features, among many that were introduced.

Some Key Features are:

  1. Bio: Yes, it is that simple as it sounds! Having a strong bio and an objective statement can play an integral role when either marketing yourself or your organization. The stronger it is for the most part will yield greater results. This is where for the most part, the “first impression” is made.

2. Updating Each Milestone: As mentioned in our previous blog, “think of LinkedIn as your Digital Resume”. It is very important to keep your Linkedin profile up to date — whether it be a career change or a career milestone!

3. Recommendations given by co-workers: This is a great feature that can benefit an individual or an organization — either for a prospective client or a potential job opportunity. It speaks to the kind of work that was performed or services rendered. This will make a recruiter or potential client reassured of what they can expect.

4. Completing Certifications within LinkedIn: Though many LinkedIn users may not necessarily be aware of Lynda, a coursera-like program that is offered through Linkedin itself, this is a great way for users to be able to refine their skillset in different sectors — such as AI, Engineering, Marketing and much more! This can also be added to your LinkedIn profile, which will increase visibility and credibility.

On the business side, there are also a variety of features that can be used. However, I will only share a few here:

  1. LinkedIn Marketing Videos: Yes, Video Marketing plays a very crucial role when marketing your services. It allows users to be able to hear from either the Founder or Key Leadership about the work an organization is doing in an interactive format.
  2. Polls: When trying to make company-wide or marketing-based decisions, organizations or individuals can gather data by utilizing the “polls” feature to get adequate feedback.
  3. Videos with a Message: This is a more specialized way of posting videos. Compared to a 5:00 video on a specific topic, it is important to have a 30 second clip with the heading summarizing the point of the video. For Example, check out this clip posted on Gary Vaynerchuk’s YouTube Channel:

It will be attention grabbing to users who view this on your LinkedIn feed.

4. Running Ads: While we mentioned this on our previous blog, we really can’t emphasize the results an organization can get, if these ads run efficiently! It is also important to note that after viewing the campaign metrics, the messaging should be tailored to that specific demographic to get more visibility.

Last, but not least, as with all platforms, LinkedIn has added new features, 2 of which are listed here:

  1. The ability to indicate why there is a gap: Realistically, there are events that occur which may cause an individual to have to take a break in their career. According to the Washington Post [2], the main reason behind this feature was to showcase that “time away from work is just as important as traditional work experiences.”
  2. Name Pronounciations: Yes this may seem basic, but it is important to be able to pronounce the name of the person that you are working with.
