Facebook Watch — Good move or bad move?

Wearables have been part of an emerging technology for a while now, with major companies making large investments, most notably Apple and its iWatch and Samsung for the Android Watch to name a few.

But there is another company entering the race — Facebook. According to a tech-based website, the Verge, Facebook is announcing a similar smartwatch which will feature video capabilities without requiring phone connectivity, while also featuring dual cameras. [2]

Now, this is also not Facebook’s first investment in emerging technologies — they have the Facebook Portal, which is an ipad-like device that makes it easier for families to communicate and the Oculus Rift, which is their Virtual Reality investment.

This brings to light a major question — while these are new and exciting technologies, what about companies respecting consumer’s privacy?

Though these products are “cool”, consumers are willingly giving up their data — such as health conditions, IP Addresses, and other personal information — and in some cases don’t realize they are giving it away.

By these technologies capturing customer’s personal data, it is encouraging cyberhackers to hack people’s information and making it more vulnerable.

Facebook should realize this and institute more regulations to ensure their users information is confidential and should be positioned as such.
